CUHK Alumni Football Tournament (17th Edition)

The 17th CUHK Alumni Football Tournament will take place on January 11, 2026 (Sunday). We warmly invite alumni to form Men’s and Women’s teams to participate!

Categories and Awards: Teams will be divided into four categories, with awards for Champion, Runner-up, Second Runner-up, and Third Runner-up in each:

Energetic Division

Passion Division

Intellect Division

Sisling Division

Tournament Format:

1. 7-a-side Football: Each team must have at least 7 players, with a maximum of 12 players.

2. Undergraduate Limit: A maximum of two undergraduate students can play per match.

3. Group Assignment: To ensure fairness, teams with similar average ages will be assigned to the Energetic, Passion Group, or Intellect Divisions.

4a. If a group has sufficient teams (6 or 8 teams): Teams will be split into two subgroups for a round-robin format. Points are awarded as follows: 3 for a win, 0 for a loss, 1 for a draw. In case of a tie in points, rankings will be determined by: goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head results.. If still tied, a coin toss will decide.

4b. Knockout Stage: After the round-robin, the top team from each subgroup advances to the championship match, and the second-placed teams play for third place. If a match ends in a draw, a sudden-death penalty shootout will determine the winner.

5. If a group has 3–4 teams: A single round-robin will be played. Points are awarded as above. Rankings for tied teams follow the same criteria (goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head results). If still tied, a sudden-death penalty shootout will decide.

6. Match Duration: Each match lasts 20 minutes with no halftime break.

7. Substitutions: Each team can make up to 2 substitutions per match, with a maximum of 7 players substituted at a time. Substituted players can re-enter the same match.

8. Rules: Matches follow Hong Kong Football Association rules, with no offside rule applied.

Participation Notes:

1 .Eligibility: All team members must be CUHK alumni or staff. A maximum of two current students from the respective department/faculty can be registered. Players must present a CUHK Alumni Credit Card or Student ID for verification. Teams with ineligible players will be disqualified immediately.

2. Registration: Registered teams will receive a player information form, which must be completed by November 15, 2025.

3. Entry Fee: HKD 1,000 per team.

4. Team Uniform: Teams must wear matching jerseys (similar colors acceptable). If both teams’ jerseys are similar, a coin toss will decide which team wears the organizer’s designated yellow vest. Teams are advised to prepare an extra set of similar-colored jerseys.

5. Check-in: Teams must arrive 15 minutes before their match start time, with the team captain reporting to the organizer’s desk.
