Programme details | A Guided Tour to "Shopping in Canton: China Trade Art in the 18th and 19th Centuries"
Originating from the 18th century Canton, Chinese export art is a unique art form that witnesses the socio-economic and cultural development of Canton and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Museum of Art keeps a huge collection of Chinese export art comparable to the Peabody Essex Museum and the British Museum, and its recent exhibition “Shopping in Canton – China Trade Art in the 18th and 19th Centuries” showcases the uniqueness of its exhibits. This course aims to introduce to students basic knowledge of art history as well as the development of folk art in early Canton and Hong Kong.
