Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, belongs to the category “Acne” and “Acne of Lung Wind” in Chinese medicine, refers to a chronic inflammation of the hair follicle and sebaceous glands. It often occurs on the head and face, affecting appearance, which causes patients to lack self-confidence and have low self-image. Improper handling of acne may even lead to permanent scarring. The occurrence of acne is affected by many factors, some common reasons are:

Acne is mostly caused by wind-heat, lung-heat, blood-heat, blood stasis, dampness-heat, insufficient kidney yin, emotional distress and syndrome of depressed liver Qi transforming into fire. Often caused by irregularity in diet, menstrual cycle, and further aggravated when lifestyle is irregular. These syndromes can be categorised into wind-heat in the lungs, spleen-stomach dampness-heat, depressed liver qi transforming into fire, and blood stasis with congealing phlegm and others (physical condition).
Through the four consultations of Chinese medicine (Inspection, Smelling and Listening, Inquiring, Palpation Diagnosis), understands the patients’ medical history and lifestyle, identifies the progress of the disease and formulates treatment plans and lifestyle alteration, to improve effect of treatment.
