New Asia College 75th Anniversary – Re-recording College Anthem

(Please note that the activity would be conducted in Cantonese, and the recording would be sung in Mandarin.)

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of New Asia College, the College hopes to invite New Asia alumni, teachers and students to join the New Asia Chorus to re-record the New Asia College anthem in order to connect the New Asia community.

The College previously recorded the anthem during its 20th anniversary, producing a vinyl record. The recording had two parts – a recitation by the then-director of the New Asia-Yale-in-China Chinese Language Centre, Mr. Liu Ming, followed by the singing of the anthem by New Asia students at the time. The then Dean of Students, Mr. Wang Ji, mentioned during a biweekly assembly that the purpose of recording the album was to help New Asia teachers and students learn the College anthem well. Therefore, the album also included the recitation.

The current version of the New Asia anthem is believed to be the recorded at similar time. One line in the lyrics still uses the phrase “fifty million descendants of the divine”, when in fact the lyrics have long been updated to “one hundred million descendants of the divine” to reflect the actual population. By re-recording the New Asia anthem, the College aims to update the lyrics to the current version, and hopes to once again help the New Asia community, including alumni, learn and sing the anthem well.

The newly recorded New Asia anthem will be officially used in future College events.

Participants must complete at least one rehearsal session before the recording day.

After the recording, participants will receive a USB drive containing footage of the recording session as a souvenir.
